I don’t know if anyone else thinks about this regularly, but I do. Maybe it’s just because I get bored when I’ve have the same car for too long.
If your car was totaled today. Let’s say it was smacked by a drunk driver while Street parked(I think this has happened to more than one Oppo.) but now one is injured and your getting a check.
In my case I’d probably try to find something that would leave me with no car payment. I’d have maybe 3-4,000 to play with after paying off the e90
The optimist in me wants my next car to be a Miata. This black NB looks like the next deal I could find.
It’s not the color I want, and its no a NA but with the budget choices are limited. And daily driving it year round would mean the NB’s glass rear window would really come in handy.

I do think like that! But I try not to think like that because every time I do it seems to cause the disaster. I don’t really believe in the power of thought but somewhere in my mind I’m a bit superstitious now.

I worry about this all the time, especially with the lunatic drivers in my area. But I like my car so much I'd probably seek out one of the other three Mazda5 6MTs that were sold in the US and buy one of those. I want a Miata, but as a second car; if I had to replace my primary vehicle I'd try to buy one just like what I have - I like it that much.

I have a second non -running car that I haven’t been able to work on due to time and weather constraints. I’d probably bite the bullet and pay someone to fix it for me

A 99 ls400 for around $4,000.
If the mini got totaled(please god), I wouldnt get enough back to buy a car, maybe 2k. When the civic got totaled I was left with $3,300 which was almost enough for the ls. Alas most of t he money had to go to a Bs debt collection rather then another car, the rest was,"savings"(project car fund)

i hope somebody totals the car i dont have and sends me a check for it so i can get a car to total

I’d find another 03-04 Dakota.
I totalled my 02 4.7+5 speed five and a half years ago moving to Virginia. Ended up getting an ‘04 Grand Prix GTP since I might have a long commute and the Dakota market out east is all moldy fruit. Ended up swapping to an ‘06 Ram RC. When I moved back west I had the opportunity a month ago to get back into a Dakota. My lady can’t drive a stick and has no desire to learn, so i got an ‘03 5.9 R/T and gave my sister my Ram to tow her horse trailer with.
Zero regrets.
For me, automotive perfection was a Dakota and a Corvair. When I had those, I wanted absolutely nothing else automotive wise. I'm back in a Dakota, it's where I belong.

I was just thinking about this. I think I’d replace my BMW with a preowned Giulia (the 2.0, not the Quad). Not even joking.

You can get glass-window soft top NA’s with rear defrost!
I'd probably get a bus pass, maaaaaybe a dirt cheap ninja 250. Just pocket the rest

Id buy this low mileage 5-spd manual mazda6 wagon that I saw earlier today and not have a car payment. I’d be sad if I lost my 2016 STI though....

Factory? I thought NAs only got plastic windows?

Probably something similar to what I have - unless my wife pushes for something bigger. Which is silly because an E Class is already a big car.

I see you like to live dangerously. On my search I did find a purple , 160,000 mile 325ix wagon. That would be my risk taking option.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure glass was an option.

I actually think about this quite often as well. If the Volvo got totaled Id probably get $1000 for it, and Id put that money towards a 240 project car. If the Cruze got totaled Id strongly consider a Gen 2 Cruze hatchback. Or if I could convince the wife I might go for a Camaro SS 1LE.

The Equus/K900 market needs to get a little older and depreciate a little more before I’d consider buying one, so if the 600 was totaled today I would probably be back in an American luxury sedan for the interim; an old Town Car Cartier or I’d maybe try to find a DTS premium optioned with a front bench.
Don’t get me wrong, I love my S600...but I love MY S600. Buying another one and having everything maintenance wise become an unknown again would be too much to deal with. And I would really have to talk myself into a BMW 760. And that BMW 760 would have to be someone’s crazy Individual Composition special order color/interior scheme.

Nice, cant really go wrong with an LS if you want a big comfy car. I found this while searching today. Love this 2 tone.

That’s the down side to having a very unique that fits you and your life so well. My brother in law is in a similar, tho not as drastic situation. He has a MK7 TDI Golf sportwagen, With a manual transmission. If it got totaled today, he could probably find a similar one.
But he also knows that when it comes time to replace it he won’t be able to find anything like it.

I’d compromise between the 240, and the Camaro Ss and get a 4 banger Camaro

Either another G37 because I absolutely love mine or a Lexus GX470 because 3 weeks in Africa showed me how much fun off-roading is

My god, you found one in a color.
I want a 97 or newer though because it was a redesign of sorts, hp went up to 300, 5 speed auto instead of 4 , better front end styling , and bigger front brakes.
My brother had one some years ago, it was effortlessly quick

I’d probably end up seeking an ‘07 Legacy wagon or a Mazda5. Either one needs to have a manual.
Knowing my luck though, neither of those would be available in my price range.

This is my periodic thought exercise to evaluate if I am ready to move to something different. If my GTI got totaled, I most likely would get another GTI, although I would have to consider options like a Kia Stinger GT with the twin turbo or maybe an M2, but the GTI fits well. Maybe a Golf R.
I’d replace my Outback with another Outback. What? It's only 3 months old.

I do actually think about this regularly.
Right now, I'd go with a used Tahoe PPV.

I’ve thought about this as well. I’ve owned my Civic for... roughly 12 years now. It’s actually still my “first” car. If I had to replace it tomorrow, I’d buy a ticket to fly down to California, and buy a 2nd gen Volt.
If used Bolt prices weren’t so high, I’d buy one of them instead. Oddly enough, used prices seem to be going up. There were a few used Bolts in Utah for ~$17k, but they seem to have disappeared. Lowest price I can find is about $800 higher than it was a few weeks ago.

After enjoying having a Nissan Leaf and the low expense for so long, I think it would be a Fiat 500e or another Leaf. Maybe a Honda Insight. Shit why not a 500e AND a Honda Insight. I could put the bigger more powerful CR-Z motor in it and it will drive better. Shit why not an Insight and a CR-Z!

So..... I’m not one to see a useful cadaver go to waste lol. I suppose one could call me Doctor Solara Frankenstein. Anyways I would drive down to Louisville pick up this 2004 bring it back home and between the hypothetically wrecked 2008, the actually wrecked 2004 in the back yard and this 2004, reconstruct another fully running white Solara.

If I lost the MR2 I’d look up NSXs but end up with an S2000. I’ve been saying this for like two years.
I hope it doesn't happen, I like the mid enginedness

It is actually 98 and up that received the VVTi and 5 Speed. I know because I have a 98 AND a 97! The LS should be oppo’s official Cheap Land Yacht

Wow. I didn’t know these came in any actual colors. I thought the only options were beige, beige, silver, and white .

I’m contemplating what I will do when I decide to stop DDing the Cooper S and Evo. Most likely will be a Model S or maybe a used Cayman or Panmera.
I’m fortunate to have the fun cars for fun, so I can be a little more grounded on the dailies.

If I lost the volt, maybe a mazda 3 with mt.

I’d probably bounce around in my pickup for a while, because the insurance payout for my car wouldn’t be good enough to get me something I actually wanted... Well I'm depressed now.

I do worry about that - I don’t want to get stuck in a position of having to buy something that I don’t really want because I have to replace a totaled vehicle quickly.... I guess I just need more cars.

I almost bought one a year and a half ago. But I’ve always wanted a Camaro, it was my (affordable) bedroom wall poster as a kid, and Ive decided if I get one, its got to be a V8. I know the 4 banger is good, theres lots of reasons to like it, but this is a case of I want what I want.
But what if the compromise was a V8 Volvo instead of a 4 banger Camaro? Because thats something thats on my radar after I sell the 850. I might pickup a 240 and V8 swap it.

At this point in the game, I’d probably go find a spotless 2nd gen Grand van , a clean 1st gen Turbo, and pick up a decent 2012+ V6 Charger.

Torn, because no car payments would be nice, but I want an Ecoboost Flex badly. Otherwise I’d find a 2nd gen Econoline in good shape for $4-5k
